Petite Friendly Prints & PatternsPrints and patterns are everywhere this season ranging from traditional plaids, paisleys, tweeds, and houndstooth to updated abstracts and florals. Animal prints continue to dominate the fashion scene in clothing and accessories. It is true that wearing prints can be tricky when you are short. Some petite women are concerned that patterns overwhelm a petite frame. Kim Williams Dahlman, our Petite Fashion Specialist and author of The Petite Handbook, encourages petite women to use her Fist Rule to determine if a print of pattern is right for your petite figure. Here is how it works: Make a fist. Hold your fist up to the main pattern in a print. If the pattern is the same size or smaller than your fist, the print is right for your petite frame. If the pattern is larger than your fist, the print is too big for your petite frame.Dahlman advises petite women to wear prints and patterns that pass the Fist Rule with confidence. Petite friendly plaids flatter petite women when worn on top to draw attention upward. A V-neck floral or animal print wrap dress lengthens a short body frame. A print cardigan or jacket increases fullness on top and evens out proportions for the pear shape petite. Bottoms in tweed or menswear patterns stretch short legs when worn with a boot in a matching color. Shop Petites
